Mela Mute™ Acoustic Foam Super Wedge

Mela Mute Super Wedges are our deepest wedge cut, built to absorb more of the lower frequencies. See the table below for the full NRC test data.

Deeper wedges absorb more. The 4" is NRC 1.05, the 6" is NRC 1.25, and the 8" is NRC 1.35. If your concern is 250 Hz, the 6" and 8" are the best choice. At 125 Hz, the 4" and 8" are the right choice. If you are not sure, call us at 1-800-679-8511 and we will help you decide.

Super Wedges come in 4", 6", and 8" thicknesses and are cut much deeper for enhanced sound absorption at low frequencies. Our Linear Wedges and Pyramids come in 2", 3", and 4". They also have a stock size of 24" x 24" (4 sq ft), whereas the Super Wedge is a standard 12" x 12" (1 sq ft).

That depends on your room and the bass you want to control. Each Super Wedge covers 1 sq ft. Our acoustic calculator can estimate the total, but it is best to call us at 1-800-679-8511 for help with your plan.

Yes, Mela Mute Super Wedges are Class A fire rated. Under ASTM E84, the foam scores a flame spread of 10 and a smoke developed rating of 50.

Use the Super Wedges on wall or ceiling surfaces where bass builds up. Use the Corner Bass Trap specifically in the corners of a room where bass builds up. For even stronger low-frequency performance, consider our EcoBass Trap.

Each Super Wedge is 12" x 12" (1 sq ft). Choose 4", 6", or 8" thick. Colors are White, Light Grey, and Black.

We recommend X60 spray adhesive for most jobs. Spray both the foam and the wall or ceiling with 80-100% coverage, and leave up to a 1/2" gap around the edge for handling. Let the adhesive tack up for 2-4 minutes. Then press the wedge into place gently so you do not crush the wedge tips. You can also install them with a combo of P329 spray adhesive plus construction adhesive. See our spray adhesive install guide or construction adhesive install guide for every step.

Yes, Super Wedges can be painted. Light Grey is the best color to paint, because it is our lowest priced option. Use a latex paint. Field painting may affect the Class A fire rating. If that rating matters for your project, we can custom paint them to maintain it for large orders. Reach out for a quote.

Super Wedges are Class A fire rated, open cell melamine foam. The foam is porous, semi-rigid, and non-fibrous.

Super Wedges suit recording studios, broadcast studios, and music rooms, especially in spots where bass is a problem.

Yes, Super Wedges are made for testing chambers. The deep wedge cut absorbs the lower frequencies that these rooms need to control.
