How do you install Mela Mute Acoustic Egg Crate Foam?

We recommend X60 spray adhesive for most jobs. Spray both the foam and the wall or ceiling with 80-100% coverage, and leave up to a 1/2" gap around the panel edge for handling. Let the adhesive tack up for 2-4 minutes. Then press the panel into place gently so you do not crush the wedge tips. Alternatively, you can install them with a combo of P329 spray adhesive plus construction adhesive. See our spray adhesive install guide or construction adhesive install guide for every step.

Can I paint Mela Mute Acoustic Egg Crate Foam?

Yes, you can paint Mela Mute Acoustic Egg Crate Foam. Our Light Grey is the best color to paint, because it is our lowest priced option. Use a latex paint. Field painting may affect the Class A fire rating. If that rating matters for your project, we can custom paint the panels to maintain the Class A fire rating for large orders. Reach out for a quote.

Why is this egg crate pattern sometimes called an anechoic wedge?

The wedge shape is named after anechoic chambers. These are echo-free rooms used for acoustic and RF testing. Wedges like this line the chamber walls and absorb reflections from every angle. The same pattern also works in recording studios, broadcast booths, and other rooms that need reflections controlled.
