Mela Mute™ Acoustic Foam Pyramids

Mela Mute Pyramids reduce echo and reverb. Their NRC rating is 0.75 at 2", 0.90 at 3", and 1.00 at 4". For full test data, check out our Pyramid spec sheet.

Mela Mute Pyramids work well in recording studios, broadcast studios, and music rooms. They absorb echo and reverb inside the room, which controls how the space sounds.

Thicker pyramids absorb more sound. The 2" is rated NRC 0.75, the 3" is NRC 0.90, and the 4" is NRC 1.00. The thicker the panel, the better it performs, particularly at 250 Hz and 500 Hz. Tell us about your room at 1-800-679-8511 and we will help you choose.

How many panels you need depends on your application, room size, how much echo you have, and the thickness of the panels used. Try our acoustic calculator for an estimate, or call us at 1-800-679-8511 to work out a plan together.

Yes, Mela Mute Pyramids carry a Class A fire rating (ASTM E84). The foam has a flame spread of 10 and a smoke developed rating of 50.

Pyramids and Linear Wedges have different surface patterns. Pyramids have a grid of pointed tips, while Linear Wedges have ridges in one direction. Both use the same foam and have matching sizes, thicknesses, and NRC ratings.

Mela Mute Pyramids come in 24" x 24" (4 sq ft) panels in 2", 3", or 4" thickness. Colors are White, Light Grey, and Black. Pyramids start at 2" because the pattern needs that much depth to form cleanly.

For most jobs, we recommend X60 spray adhesive. Apply it to both the foam and the surface with 80-100% coverage, and leave up to a 1/2" gap around the panel edge for handling. After the adhesive tacks up for 2-4 minutes, press the panel into place gently so the pyramid tips do not crush. You can also use a combo of P329 spray adhesive plus construction adhesive. Our spray adhesive install guide and construction adhesive install guide cover every step.

Yes, Mela Mute Pyramids can be painted. Light Grey is the best color to paint, because it is our lowest priced option. Use a latex paint. Field painting may affect the Class A fire rating. If that rating matters for your project, we can custom paint the pyramids to maintain it for large orders. Reach out for a quote.

Mela Mute Pyramids are cut from Class A fire rated, open cell melamine foam.

We can quote custom pyramid panels up to 4' x 8' and 4" thick for large orders. Send us the size you need, and we will prepare a quote.
