Can I use Mega Block in a boat engine compartment?

Yes, you can use Mega Block in a boat engine compartment. The melamine foam is hydrophobic, so it repels water. In ASTM D2842 testing, it absorbed less than 1.5% water after 15 minutes and less than 4% after 96 hours.

How far should Mega Block be from the heat source?

Install Mega Block with a 2" air gap between the foil and the heat source. Face the foil toward the heat source. We always recommend this spacing for the best heat protection.

How do I install Mega Block?

To install Mega Block, remove any old insulation to expose bare sheet metal or fiberglass. Clean the surface with denatured alcohol. Cut the foam with a sharp utility knife, peel the backing, and press it on with the foil facing the heat source. Hold pressure with your fingers for several minutes. Is Mega Block fire rated?

Yes, Mega Block passes UL 94 V-0 vertical burning. It is also Class A fire rated according to ASTM E84, with a flame spread below 25 and smoke developed below 50.

Installation Instructions

Mega Block™ comes with a peel and stick backing.

Install Steps

Clean the application surface of any dirt or oil.
Map out where you are placing Mega Block. Always face the foil side of the product towards the heat source, and install with at least 2” from the heat source.
Peel off the backing and stick. Apply enough pressure for your fingers to "feel" the adhesive bonding to the metal surface.
Seal the edges with high-temp foil insulation tape to protect the foam.

Mega Block reflects 98% of radiant heat. Its foil facing is rated to 1000°F and should always be installed with a 2" air gap between it and the heat source. Mega Block works from -40°F to 1000°F. The foam also insulates, with an R-value of 4.16 per inch.
