Sound Lock™ Soundproof Door

The Sound Lock Soundproof Door is rated STC 56. A view window lowers the rating slightly, as the table shows.

The Sound Lock Soundproof Door is available with an optional 60-minute fire rated core. The core is made from Medite. The hardware and hinges are all rated to that 60-minute mark or more. A view window does not change the fire rating.

The Sound Lock Soundproof Door starts at $6,995 in oak with standard hardware. Upgrades are priced separately and are listed below.

Yes, we offer four view window sizes for the Sound Lock Soundproof Door: 10" x 10", 6" x 28", 22" x 28" and 22" x 56". The 6" x 28" is the most popular. A 22" wide window needs a door at least 34" wide. Narrower doors take the 10" or 6" windows.

Every window is an STC 49 Tru Acoustics window. A small window lowers the door to STC 53-55. A large window lowers it to STC 51-53. The fire rating is unaffected.

The Sound Lock Soundproof Door arrives pre-hung and pre-assembled, with the jamb, hinges and primary door seals already installed. The handleset ships in its own box.

The install kit adds shims, screws, acoustical sealant, a backer rod and the secondary jamb seals. You install the secondary seals on site. The door has 3 or 4 heavy-duty hinges depending on the size of your door.

The rough opening for the Sound Lock Soundproof Door should be 2" wider and 1.5" taller than the door. Double-stud the opening, because the door is heavy. If you frame with metal studs, make the second stud wood.

For help planning your opening, call us at 1-800-679-8511.

The Sound Lock Soundproof Door arrives pre-hung and weighs about 400 lb, so we recommend a team install. Start with a double-studded rough opening that is 2" wider and 1.5" taller than the door. Then follow these steps in order:

1. Check the crate for damage, then remove the 4 screws and temporary bottom plate from the door.
2. Make sure the floor under the door is flat and level. Do not raise the hinge side of the jamb off the floor.
3. Stand the door in the opening with the trim tight to the wall. Measure to the center of each hinge, mark the same spots on the other side, and shim behind the hinges.
4. Swap the 2 screws per hinge nearest the door stop for the heavy-duty hinge screws, and plumb the hinge side.
5. Shim the latch side reveal to 1/8". Line up the latch with the strike plate, then shim and secure the jamb. Replace the strike side hardware screws with the long screws.
6. If your wall is thicker than the standard jamb, cut the extension jamb to fit, glue it into the jamb groove and nail it in place.
7. Fill the gap around the jamb with a backer rod at least 1" deep, then seal it with acoustical sealant.
8. Install the trim on both sides of the door.
9. Install the handleset.
10. Install the secondary seals in this order: strike side, top, then hinge side. The primary seals are already installed.
11. Adjust the bottom seal. Back out the hinge side screw a half-turn at a time, then quarter-turns, until the seal only just blocks light under the door.
12. Press the cap kit over the seals for 5 seconds each, starting with the top.
13. Adjust the primary door seal. Slide a piece of paper into the 1/16" gap between the neoprene and the door, and turn the pan head screws counter-clockwise in quarter turns until the neoprene holds the paper. Do not overtighten.

The Sound Lock Soundproof Door fits any wall thickness. The standard jamb suits walls from 4-7/8" to 6" thick. For thicker walls, we add a jamb extension kit that covers up to a 12" jamb.

For a wall thicker than 12", call us at 1-800-679-8511.

Yes, you can use your own hardware on the Sound Lock Soundproof Door at no upcharge. It must fit a door that is 2-7/8" thick, which usually means a custom handleset. You will need to provide templates and instructions for that hardware as well as the desired handle height. Once our production team reviews them, you will send the hardware to us. We do not mill for deadbolts.

A push bar (panic bar) works too. It can go with no handle on the other side, a dummy handle, or a keyed handle that works with the push bar. We can supply the push bar, or you can provide your own and we will send you a blank door.

Yes, the Sound Lock Soundproof Door can accommodate an electronic strike. We swap the multi-latch hardware for single-latch hardware. The electronic strike is installed in the field. We recommend a wall mounted strike.

Yes, the Sound Lock Soundproof Door is ADA compliant when the door panel is at least 32" wide with no threshold. Our standard hardware is ADA compliant, and the automatic 3-point latching closes the door without lifting the handle.

The Sound Lock Soundproof Door is made for indoor spaces that need privacy and quiet. Recording studios, theaters, home theaters, hotels, medical facilities, gun ranges and offices are the most common uses. Home offices, studies and luxury bedrooms are good fits too.
