Yes, RSIC-1 Low Profile is a great fit for ceilings on wood or steel joists where headroom is tight, such as a basement ceiling. It attaches to the side of the joist, so the clip sits recessed in the joist cavity. It is made for ceilings only.

RSIC-1 Low Profile is designed for ceilings only. Its bracket is built for the downward load of a ceiling, which is a weaker orientation for the sideways loads on a wall. For walls, use RSIC-1. RSIC-DC04 can also build low-profile walls with a minimum depth of 1/2".

RSIC-1 Low Profile supports 1 or 2 layers of 5/8" drywall when it is installed on every joist. Space the clips at 24" x 48" o.c. for joists at 24" o.c., or 16" x 48" o.c. for joists at 16" o.c. For heavier ceilings, add more clips rather than changing the layout.

RSIC-1 Low Profile is not listed in a UL fire rated design, because its channel runs parallel to the joists. If your ceiling needs a 1-hour fire rating, use RSIC-1, which is UL classified.

You need RSIC-1 Low Profile clips, 25 gauge hat channel with a hemmed edge detail, screws, 5/8" drywall, and acoustical sealant. For wood joists, use #8 x 1-1/2" minimum coarse thread screws. For steel joists, use #8 x 1" minimum fine thread screws. #10 or #12 hex head screws are optional for either. Never fasten the clips with nails.
