RSIC-SI-X is a low-profile spring isolation clip for ceilings. It ships fully pre-assembled and pre-calibrated, so it needs no calibration on site. A traditional 1" deflection spring hanger needs cold-rolled channel and backing installed in the field. RSIC-SI-X saves that labor.

You need RSIC-SI-X springs, 25 gauge hat channel with a hemmed edge detail, perimeter tape, 5/8" drywall, and acoustical sealant. For wood framing, use #8 x 2-3/4" minimum coarse thread screws. For steel framing, use #8 x 2-1/4" minimum fine thread screws, in steel at least 20 gauge. We recommend #10 or #12 x 2-3/4" screws for both wood and steel. Every fastener must be rated for 100 lbs of pull-out and shear. Hat channel is sourced by your local hardware store or drywall supplier.

Check that you have the right quantity of each color, then lay the springs out on the floor in the pattern of your ceiling. Fasten each spring to the structure. Set every spring at the same height with a laser level or tape measure. Keep the first drywall support less than 8" from the wall. Snap in the 25 gauge hat channel with a hemmed edge detail. Place perimeter tape 3/8" below the channel around the room. Install the drywall snug to the tape, then seal the edges with acoustical sealant.

Keep the hat channel and drywall from touching the wall framing, because direct contact lets sound bypass the springs. Leave a 1/4" gap around the drywall perimeter and fill it with acoustical sealant. Seal electrical boxes and other penetrations with acoustical sealant or putty pads.

Projectors, HVAC ducting, curtain tracks, and other heavy items need their own independent support. Do not hang them from the springs, hat channel, or drywall. That way the ceiling carries only its own weight and keeps its isolation.
