RC-1 Boost® - RC-1 Channel Enhancer

RC-1 Boost is a small rigid plastic isolator that mounts on RC-1 resilient channel at its pre-punched holes. It is a cost-effective way to increase the soundproofing performance of a resilient channel assembly. It also helps prevent common resilient channel install issues. Each Boost comes with its own screw.

RC-1 Boost works on walls and ceilings framed in wood or steel. Each Boost fastens through the channel's pre-punched hole into the framing. The screw included with the Boost we sell is for steel framing. If you are building with wood framing, call us at 1-800-679-8511 and we can help.

You need RC-1 Boost clips, RC-1 channel, 5/8" drywall, 1/4" shims for wall installs, and acoustical sealant. Use only the screw that comes with the RC-1 Boost, and never fasten it with nails. Seal the perimeter with fire and smoke rated acoustical sealant where your assembly requires it. The RC-1 Boost install guide has further details.

On a wall

Space the clips 24" o.c. when the framing is 16" o.c., or 16" o.c. when the framing is 24" o.c. Place each Boost over the channel at a pre-punched hole and fasten it to the framing with the supplied screw. The Boost should just touch the framing and screw head, so do not overtighten it. Put the first row of channel within 3" of the floor and 6" of the ceiling, with every channel facing the same direction. Install the drywall from the bottom up on 1/4" floor shims, leaving a 1/4" gap around the perimeter. Seal that gap with acoustical sealant.

On a ceiling

Use the same clip spacing and fastening. Put the first row of channel within 3" of the wall, with every channel facing the same direction. Install the drywall with a 1/4" gap around the perimeter, and seal that gap with acoustical sealant.

The 1/4" shims fully support the weight of the drywall while you install every screw. Remove them only after every screw in every layer of drywall is in, floor to ceiling and wall to wall. The shims are critical to getting the intended result.

RC-1 Boost supports 1 or 2 layers of 5/8" drywall.
