The soundproof blanket has a mass loaded vinyl (MLV) barrier that blocks sound, and its quilted face absorbs sound. The Indoor Acoustic Blanket has no barrier layer, so it absorbs sound but blocks less. At 2" thick, the soundproof blanket is rated STC 32 and the acoustic blanket STC 19. Both have a 0.85 NRC. The soundproof blanket is best for blocking the most sound. The acoustic blanket is best for reducing echo in a room or if you are looking for a lighter sound barrier.

Yes, you can do both in the field. A utility knife or heavy-duty scissors cuts the blanket. Reach out to us about our field binding kit to finish the cut edges. To add a grommet, punch the hole at least 1-1/2" from the edge. Set the grommet with a rubber mallet on a firm, hard surface. Strike it hard enough to fully pinch the material and brass together. A heavy-duty grommet kit with a punch tool and die-set tool is available for larger commercial jobs.

The standard stock blankets come in Grey. You can also order Tan, Black, and White. Those have a minimum order quantity of 2 and a 6-8 week lead time. The Quiet Quilt Indoor Soundproof Blanket is made of mass loaded vinyl (MLV) bonded to a quilted, vinyl-coated polyester face that encloses fiberglass. The MLV is the smoother side, and the quilted side is the face that absorbs sound.

The 2" is the thickness of the fiberglass fill before assembly. The fill compresses when it is sewn behind the vinyl face and again when it is quilted to the MLV. This is standard practice for reaching the rated STC and NRC numbers. If you cut the panel open, the fiberglass fluffs back to its full 2".
