FireWall™ Thermal Insulation Coating
FireWall™ Ceramic Thermal Coating is a water based acrylic polymer, loaded with heat reducing ceramic spheres and thermal insulating glass beads. When applied with 100% coverage to the heat source side of sheet metal panels of a vehicle, Firewall™ will reduce heat transfer and help keep the passenger compartment cool and comfortable. FireWall™ Ceramic Insulation Coating is loaded with vacuum sealed fillers, making it flame retardant in addition to being non-toxic and waterproof. Easy to apply with brush, roller or spray gun!
Size Options | 1 gallon, 5 gallons |
Square Foot Coverage | 1 gal = 20 sq ft @ 2mm thick (80 mils) |
Weight | 8 lbs (wet) | 5 lbs (cured) |
Temperature Rating | 400°F sustained, 500°F intermittent |
Total Thickness | Recommended 2-3mm |
Layer Thickness | Apply in 1mm layers |
Application | 100% coverage facing heat source with brush, roller, or spray gun |
Spraying is the most efficient application method to choose for coating irregular surfaces. Prior to spraying FireWall™, everything close to the panel should be covered and masked off for overspray protection. We recommend using our Second Skin spray gun with an air compressor with 4-6.5 cfm and 50-85 psi. A 5-gallon tank or larger is ideal. If your compressor is smaller you will have to take more breaks to allow it to fill back up. If the breaks are longer than 10 minutes, you must clean out the gun to prevent Firewall™ from curing inside.
Brushing or Rolling On are good options for applying FireWall™, too. Simply dip a paint brush into the bucket or pour the Firewall™ into a roller tray and paint FireWall™ on any metal panel that needs heat protection at the recommended two to three 1mm layers.
What is the difference between Spectrum™ & FireWall™?
Spectrum™ is a dense polymer designed to damp lower-frequency structure borne noises. While it provides thermal insulation, its primary purpose is to stop metal from vibrating. FireWall™ is much lighter. The key ingredients are loads of extremely small glass spheres that are very poor conductors of heat. FireWall™ Ceramic Coating is not rated for vibration damping, as its primary purpose is thermal insulation.
Can you use Spectrum™ and FireWall together?
You can use both products together. Apply Spectrum™ as the base layer (at least 2 layers, 1mm each). Or choose one of the materials two depending on whether your focus is sound or heat. FireWall™ is excellent as a spray on heat shield!
Is there a non-liquid alternative to FireWall™?
If you need to insulate your firewall but don't want to use a liquid based product, check out our fully peel and stick Firewall Insulation Kit.

You can use it on palstic, but you will need to use a self etching palstic primer first. I would suggest checking out the Firewall Kits https://www.secondskinaudio.com/car-soundproofing-packages/car-firewall-kits for best reduction of heat and sound.
For Firewall and Spectrum liquid products, you must use a self-etching primer designed for plastic. We suggest POR15 or Bullseye 1-2-3 self-etching primers. You should also be looking at Thermal Block and Mega Block to use on top of the Firewall ceramic coating. Cal us at 1-800-679-8511 with any questions.

Firewall ceramic coating should be used on the hot side of the firewall (engine side), hood (engine side), transmission tunnel (undercarriage side), etc. If using Spectrum and Firewall together on the same area (exterior or interior application) Spectrum should always go directly on the metal first and Firewall on top of it. Real butyl mats like Damplifier/Damplifier Pro will not melt off a firewall application, if they melt they contain asphalt or tar which fails at 300 degrees. True quality butyl holds up over 300 degrees and our formula has the highest heat rating in the industry at 450 degrees. Spectrum is specced out at 400 degrees F and also will have no issues being used on the hot engine side of the firewall. As for ordering, we do our best to wrap the Spectrum orders with thermal insulation (Heat Wave Pro) to protect them. If for some reason they make it through and are frozen upon arrival we will make it right with the customer. Spectrum or Firewall must be applied in weather above 50 degrees F for a full 24 hour period.
