The Honda HR-V first came to the US market back in 2013. This is Honda’s entry-level SUV that was designed to give owners a cost-effective and fuel-efficient way to get from Point A to Point B. The Honda HR-V combines the space of a small SUV with the safety and reliability that Honda is known for, all while giving the driver great fuel economy. The HR-V has been incredibly popular in the US, but we do hear some owners complaining about excessive cabin noise compared to cars they’ve had in the past, particularly coming for the 4 cylinder engine. That’s why we’ve created a complete guide to help with Honda HR-V noise reduction.
Honda HR-V Cabin Noise Reduction Treatment
Learning the ins and outs of giving your Honda HR-V a noise reduction treatment doesn’t have to be complicated. We’ve created a package designed to fit the Honda HR-V that includes some of our most popular products. For the Honda HR-V, we’d recommend our Compact Sports Utility Vehicle Soundproofing Package. Inside, you’ll find two of our most popular products; Damplifier Pro and Luxury Liner Pro. We specifically developed this noise treatment kit to reduce both structural noises and airborne noises within compact SUVs. This is the easiest, highest-quality, and cost-effective way to reduce the noise in your HR-V by 10-15 dB.
What is Damplifier Pro?
Damplifier Pro has been the best performing sound deadening mat for over 20 years. If you’re having rattling or vibration noises coming from your floor, doors, or anything else like this that’s made of metal, these noises are considered “structural”. Damplifier Pro is designed to silence structural noise by reducing vibrations caused by the metal panels and components in your HR-V. This structural noise occurs when physical energy travels through those structural components, which you would notice as vibrations. The vibrating metal leads to unwanted cabin noise. Because Honda wanted to keep the HR-V at a lower price point, they skimped on some of the materials used inside the cabin. If you skimp on vibration damping and soundproofing, the vehicle is just going to be louder. You can apply Damplifier Pro to the trunk, floor, doors, hood, and more, to deaden these vibrations and get a noticeably quieter cabin. High-end car brands, like Honda’s luxury brand, Acura, use more sound deadening materials, and Damplifier Pro will give the vehicle more of that luxury feel.
You only need about 60% coverage to hear a massive difference in the noise level within your HR-V’s interior. This means less install time and better value than a lower quality sound deadening treatments.
What is Luxury Liner Pro?
Luxury Liner Pro is our best performing mass loaded vinyl sound barrier for vehicles and is known industry-wide as being one of the best sound deadening products on the market. Think of it as an extremely dense extra wall that you install between the cabin and the sources of airborne noise in your HR-V (engine noise, tire noise, and road noise). This is perfect for the HR-V since the main noise complaint comes from the engine noise. Luxury Liner Pro is developed specifically to help eliminate this type of noise. You're going to want to get as close to 100% coverage as possible because the better your coverage, the better the barrier and the less noise you'll hear. That's because airborne noise will enter through the weakest point in any barrier so leaving gaps is like leaving a pathway for noise to continue traveling through. Combined with a vibration damping material like Spectrum or Damplifier Pro, Luxury Liner Pro is the best soundproofing treatment you can give your Honda HR-V.
How To Reduce Honda HR-V Tire Noise
Have a commute and are sick of hearing the road and tire noise coming from your HR-V? This is a pretty common problem for a lot of drivers, but luckily we have the perfect solution.
It’s called Spectrum Liquid Deadener. This is the easiest way to reduce road noise and tire noise in a Honda HR-V . All you need to do to install Spectrum Liquid Deadener is apply 3mm of Spectrum into each wheel well (applied as 1mm layers – 3 total layers) directly to the metal. You can do this by spraying the liquid deadener on or painting it on with a brush or roller. For 4 wheel wells, we recommend purchasing 2 gallons of Spectrum Liquid Deadener. This will reduce the cabin noise in your HR-V by 3-5 dB on the highway! Not bad for such an easy product to install!
The BEST Way To Reduce Noise In A Honda HR-V
We love the Honda HR-V and we’re sure you love it as well. But let’s face it, it’s no Mercedes-Benz when driving down the road. High-end luxury brands spend a ton of money on designing the acoustics in the cabin and invest in sound deadening products which is why your Honda doesn’t feel quite the same. But what if it could? We’ve compiled a list of products that are proven to be the best way to reduce Honda HR-V road noise, tire noise, engine noise, and just about everything else!
