Spectrum is way too thick for a normal spray gun. The SS spray gun is actually an undercoating gun made for spraying the much thicker stuff???

Check your craftsman gun and see what the nozzle size is - likely 1.2-1.8mm range. the lower number is smaller and typically used for thin material like clear coats, the 1.8mm is used for primers (sandable, build etc). I spoke with ANT and he rec's 2mm or larger. And folks using 2mm have said it clogs...
So, I have ordered an Iwata 3.0mm - which should lay it down smooth. I looked at the SS gun, and it's a bargain, but it want a smooth paintable finish that will look stock when done. Plus can re-use this down the road for undercoats and bedliner maybe... Model and some specs: AZ3 HTE 3.0 / 3.0mm (0.118in) / 44PSI @ 7-10CFM (i've seen 7 and 10 both mentioned) their site: http://www.anestiwata.com/products/m...?series=AZ3HTE this was kind of hard to track down. finally special ordered from a local WESCO autobody paint shop. not too $$, but 3-4x the cost of the SS gun! I've been using a ATD-6899 gun... not liking it at all. Need to get a Second Skin gun and compare.

Has anyone tried a HVLP gun for spraying Spectrum? It sprays fairly thick paints like epoxy. I'd rather just buy a SS spray gun & keep my good spray guns working right. I paint furniture & cabinetry with my guns. I'd hate to ruin one spraying Spectrum. Once you find a gun you like it becomes a tool you can't do without.

I sprayed my entire car with an HVLP gun. It worked, just required the right pressure and flow rate.
Then I bought a cheapo undercoat gun that worked a little bit better, but not great. So with all of the said, buy the SS gun. |
